AT&T will let iPad owners buy a day of unlimited cellular data for $3, and it doesn't matter if your device is from Verizon, T-Mobile, or other competing wireless carriers.
The cellular carrier announced Unlimited Day Pass on June 10. The service gives eligible Wi-Fi + Cellular iPads 24 hours of unlimited data on AT&T's network without requiring a monthly plan, contract, subscription, or credit check.
Users can activate the service directly from the Cellular Data section of Settings on supported eSIM-capable iPads. Purchases are made with a debit or credit card, and data service begins shortly after activation.
The offering is available to AT&T customers and people who use other wireless providers. The service is designed for iPad owners who don't maintain a dedicated tablet data plan but occasionally need a cellular connection.
Customers receive one complimentary pass with their first activation. Additional passes cost $3 for each 24-hour period. AT&T says it may temporarily slow speeds when the network is congested.
AT&T is betting some tablet users don't want a monthly plan
Most wireless carriers sell tablet connectivity through recurring monthly plans. Unlimited Day Pass takes a different approach by letting customers purchase service only when they need it.
AT&T says it's the first major U.S. carrier to offer on-demand connectivity for eligible iPad users regardless of their existing wireless provider. Verizon and T-Mobile customers can purchase access as long as their iPad supports eSIM activation and appears on AT&T's compatibility list.
Eligible devices include recent iPad Pro, iPad Air, iPad mini, and iPad models, along with older hardware dating back to the 2018 iPad Pro, 2019 iPad Air, fifth-generation iPad mini, and seventh-generation iPad.
AT&T says it plans to expand Unlimited Day Pass beyond iPads. Future support could include Android tablets, smartwatches, laptops, and drones.
The company also plans to introduce longer-duration options. Weekend and week-long passes are under consideration, though AT&T hasn't announced a timeline.
