Apple's tvOS 27 update brings a redesigned Podcasts app, better Apple Music audio, new accessibility features, and a handful of smaller improvements to Apple TV.

As you know by now, Apple TV updates are somewhat modest compared to other Apple products. That's especially true after the major Liquid Glass redesign introduced with tvOS 26.

Still, tvOS 27 has a few worthwhile additions, particularly for Apple Music and Podcasts users. Here's what Apple's rolling out to the Apple TV.

Podcasts gets a major overhaul

The Apple Podcasts app is getting one of the biggest changes in tvOS 27.

Apple has completely redesigned Podcasts for the Apple TV, adding a new sidebar that makes it easier to navigate through the app and browse shows.

The bigger change is support for video podcasts. Video podcasts are already supported on other platfroms, but tvOS 27 brings that experience to Apple TV.

Smart downloads are also coming to Apple TV. This allows podcast content to be downloaded automatically so that episodes are ready to play when needed.

Apple Music adds new audio features

Apple Music is getting a few improvements in tvOS 27, including support for Hi-Res Lossless audio.

Apple is also bringing AutoMix to Apple Music on both Apple TV and HomePod via tvOS 27. AutoMix uses transitions between songs to make playlists flow more continuously, rather than simply stopping one track before starting the next.

Accessibility improvements

tvOS 27 adds a long-requested accessibility feature with support for larger text.

Users can increase the size of onscreen text through the accessibility settings, making menus and other information easier to read from across the room.

Quality and performance upgrades

Of course, Apple has also been working to improve the overall experience of tvOS in this newest update.

Most notably, animations and app launches are smoother. Control Center is also more responsive.
